It's the time of year again when, post Hallowe'en bash at my house, the Messengers ramp it up to provide a full on Beer'n'Bombs party on November 5th.
If you can't remember remember last year's 5th of November, see Max's blog from then, and click here to his from this year.
The aim was to settle down, eat (Mum provided her world famous chicken nuggets for us kids, and the grown ups had something called bof burgonion which they loved), watch some fireworks, set off sky lanterns, do a pinata, watch a DVD while the grown ups did a quiz, decorate rockets ... But as usual, it descended into doing whatever everyone wanted.
Mum's pop quiz took place outside while we were watching something on TV. Mum got cross cos no one was listening, so she did her best Madame Gazelle impression, and by golly they paid attention. Erinsmum had to sit with her finger on her lips. The dads won the quiz, 52 to 48. Mum said she wasn't going to do on again! Something to do with chatting, moaning and a quiet iPad.
The rockets were fab, all glittery. The food was good, and we ate it in ships on the floor in the front room. The pinata was fab, and had sweets AND little toys! Sky lanterns, not great, something to do with opening them too early and too much wind. Such a shame as it was a good idea.
The bonfire was of Bud's usual standard, ie roaringly great. On went two scouts, a coffin (bit late) and lots of other wood, along with the fireworks that didn't go off.
And this brings us to the main event. After my upset last year whereby I didn't see Daddy's Big Rocket, this time he bought 5 of the buggers, along with a Gunpowder Keg, along with Erinsdad. This time, oh I watched all right! We'd had loads of lovely sparkly ones, loads of cat fart ones, and then we had one that whizzed up the garden towards the house, between Karen and Carron, and a spark caught Poppy's face! Naughty firework. A big rocket failed to set off and only managed (just) to scale the garden wall and exploded just feet away! Quelle excitement!
Anyway, Bob fell asleep on the sofa, I cut my hand on a nail, Elizabeth didn't like Shrek, and Erin, Johnny and Max were ok. The olds made us go home at about midnight. In fact we got a taxi! How racy. Can't wait for Beer'n'Bombs 2012! Thanks Max's mum and dad. Great party.
