Freedom and films

Dear Ben,

Today was the last weekday of the half-term holiday and something momentous happened! Along with Erin, her mum and I allowed you to go the cinema on your own. Obviously we didn't give you the bus fare to get to Gun Wharf and wave you off at the bus stop. We bought your tickets, chose your seats with you, discussed a set of "rules" for the cinema... then waved you off! And off we went, to a nice pub where, over cappucino and tea *with a side of chips), we caught up.

With ten minutes to spare, we walked back and spotted you sauntering out of the screen, cool as cucs. You'd enjoyed the film, you even said I'd have liked it. Done. Another thing ticked off the list, after letting you go in the swimming pool while watching you from the cafe (two years ago), and walking home from school.

We were both very impressed with you, your sensibleness and maturity. Perhaps we may let you go again! (This has nothing obviously to do with the fact that we get two hours of catch up time!)

Love,
Mum x

PS And this was after you got Fairplay award at football.

PPS For any of you interested, here are our Cinema Rules:

1, Absolutely no talking during the film.
2. Sit near the end so you can go to the toilet easily.
3. Don't kick the seats in front of you.
4. Don't put your feet up on the seats in front of you.
5. Don't slurp your drink loudly, or chew loudly.
