Dear Ben,
It's the weekend. If you had your way, you'd intersperse football with friends all weekend. We, as your parents, do try to make us all do family things at the weekends. Saturday afternoons you go to see Pompey every other week with Dad, Sunday morning are your football matches and in the afternoon we try to do something nice. Dad's always trying to get us to go out more on our bikes. Today, with the sun out (albeit feeling like 8 degrees), it was a good idea to bike down the seafront. I came up with the idea of lunch at the Coffee Cup en route.
We sat outside to have our lunch, looking out over the sea. Coats still on but gloves off, it was bright and sunny and the beach was buzzing. Continuing along the seafront, we met a BMX ride-out of about 50 bikes. We walked our bike along the bridge to the Hot Walls and and had ice creams on the little beach bit there. You skimmed some stones and we played "Hit the Lolly Stick".
The wind was against us on the way back as we nipped through Southsea, rights and lefts through quiet streets until we traverse Goldsmith Avenue. You ride between us, with me bringing up the rear, to try to get your road-ready to ride your bike to school from next year. You're quite sensible already, but you're only 10...
A quick explore around Football Alley and then we dropped you at the JBs' house to play for a few hours. I'm currently sat in the easy room with the doors open and a nice cup of tea.
See, we do let you see your friends at the weekend!
Love,
Mum x
